The Pittsburgh Pirates took the series in Phoenix.
Thursday afternoon, the Bucs knocked off the Arizona Diamondbacks four to two — winning two of three on the road and taking their winning streak to five of their last six. Pittsburgh improves to twenty-one and seventeen on the year.
The offensive stars? Brandon Lowe was electric — going three for five with a home run and an R-B-I, scoring twice. Catcher Joey Bart also went deep — a solo shot that was part of a two-hit, two-R-B-I afternoon. The two combined for three of Pittsburgh’s four runs. On the mound, starter Mitch Keller earned the win — going six innings, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out four. Gregory Soto finished it off with a clean ninth for the save.
Now the Pirates hit the road to San Francisco — opening a three-game series tonight at Oracle Park against the Giants. First pitch is at ten-fifteen Eastern. Pittsburgh sends right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski to the mound. San Francisco counters with Robbie Ray, who has been sharp this season with a two-ninety-five E-R-A and forty-one strikeouts in seven starts.
