The St. Bonaventure baseball season is over, and it ended with a split weekend at Handler Park against Fordham.
The Bonnies opened the series Thursday with a walk-off thriller — trailing 5-3 heading into the ninth before Joey Calabretti launched a three-run walk-off home run to give Bonaventure the 8-5 win. It was Calabretti’s second homer of the game and one of the best moments of the Bonnies’ season. But Fordham answered by taking Friday’s game, then rallied for five runs in the ninth inning Saturday to steal the series finale 12-10
The Bonnies close the year at thirteen and thirty-six overall, seven and twenty-three in the Atlantic 10 — not the record anyone had hoped for heading into the spring. Calabretti finishes with eleven home runs on the year, and junior centerfielder Anthony Fernandez was a bright spot all season long, putting together one of the best offensive campaigns in recent Bona’s history.
As for the postseason — the Atlantic 10 Tournament runs May twentieth through the twenty-fourth at Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia — but the Bonnies’ conference record keeps them on the outside looking in.
For St. Bonaventure, the focus now turns to the offseason.
