1. The longest partial lunar eclipse in over 500 years happened overnight. It lasted about three-and-a-half hours from start to finish. At its peak, around 97% of the Moon was in Earth’s shadow.
2. In other space news: The Space Station crew had to scramble when Russia blew up one of its own satellites . . . NASA announced an astronaut named Jessica Watkins will be the first Black woman to go to the Space Station next April . . . and a new study says using wormholes to take shortcuts through outer space might be possible after all.
3. In health news: A study found kids should spend more time with their grandmother, because her brain is hardwired to genuinely care about them . . . a study in Australia found a healthy diet keeps you younger than any anti-aging drug . . . and a study in Texas found that looking at yourself in the mirro rmore often can help you lose weight.
4. Next time you need someone to do you a favor, a study in New Zealand found giving them a deadline just makes them procrastinate more. Short deadlines are better than long ones. But your friend is more likely to do it quickly if there’s no deadline at all.
5. And in tech news: A goat farm in China is now using facial recognition to prevent incest and stop goats from inbreeding . . . and researchers at Northwestern came up with a high-res camera that can see around corners, and through skin. It basically analyzes the way light bounces around, and A.I. reconstructs the stuff you can’t see.
