Governor Josh Shapiro spoke over the weekend about the importance of building out high-speed internet in rural and other underserved parts of the State.
Shapiro said that the number of people lacking reliable broadband access was unacceptable.
“Consider this: All across this great Commonwealth, more than 276,000 households, businesses, schools and libraryies don’t have access to broadband at all. And another 52,000 don’t have access to broadband that they can routinely rely on.”
Last week the State was awarded over $1 billion in funds to extend broadband access. The funds will be administered by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority, created through legislation authored by State Representative Martin Causer.
