State Senator Cris Dush is criticizing Governor Josh Shapiro’s automatic voter registration policy, calling it “sinister.”
Last week the Governor ordered PennDOT to take customers applying for or renewing drivers licenses or photo ID’s who are eligible to vote through the registration process unless they opt out of registering.
Tuesday, Senator Dush released a video statement criticizing the move.
“As with any right, the government does not have the authority to compel the people to do something. That is their right to exercise or not to exercise. Pennsylvania law. We provide opportunities through PennDOT and other state agencies for people to exercise their right to vote. That’s the word, opportunities. Black PennDOT had the opportunity already available in its system. The law does not, however, give authority to the executive branch to tell the people you will be registered to vote, as it does under this new scheme. That Is a coercive act.
Despite the Senator’s insistence, the automatic voter registration policy does not force PennDOT customers to register, it provides them with the ability to opt-out.
Dush doesn’t know how to do anything BUT lie. He lied about Governor Wolf allowing seniors to die from COVID as a “cost saving measure.” He lied about voter fraud in 2020. He lied when he said human trafficking was the biggest business in the world. (HE EVEN LIES WHEN HE’S ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF AN ISSUE!) This man is a disgrace and needs to be drummed out of Harrisburg.
I wonder why our governor mandated automatic voter registration just prior to the 2024 presidential election? Asking for a friend.
There is an option to opt out. What is the problem here?
I realize that people are not FORCED to register as it provides an opt-out option. However, it should be the opposite. Continue to have the opportunity to Opt-in. i do feel it is a bit backhanded myself.
Ok, so the DEFAULT is to register. How hard is it to toggle the switch to no?
Another way to have illegals voting in our country… dispicable. We knew Shapiro is a snake before he was elected. He’s even worse than Wolf. This is why ppl are leaving PA!
REGISTERING to vote does not mean anyone WILL vote.
Not everything is a conspiracy. He is not twisting your arm to go vote. The worst this decision can do is increase the number of registered voters. How does that negatively affect anyone?
