The drunk driver who caused the death of Kayden Belleisle and severely injured Gabby Kranock and Hailey Bello could spend fewer than three years in prison.
Skyler Hess, of Little Genesee, was sentenced by Cattaraugus County Court Judge Ronald D. Ploetz to a total of 12-22 years on 10 counts in the indictment stemming from the incident on Route 417 on September 3rd of last year, the maximum sentence allowed on each charge.
However, Ploetz ordered the sentences to be served concurrently, not consecutively, meaning that Hess could serve as little as twenty-seven months and no more than seven years in prison.
Hess was 19 at the time of the crash that killed Belleisle, injured Bello, and paralyzed Kranock.
This is totally unacceptable. This is the very reason why our Judicial System is so corrupt, unfair, and completely useless. It basically comes down to who has more money as well as who you know. One person gets 2 years for killing somebody and another gets 20 years for the exact offense. This manure happens on a daily basis. What ever happened to the true American way? Honestly.
