Employees from Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), both Kaleida Health facilities, came together to support our local communities and help fight local food insecurity. Knock Out Hunger coordinated in BRMC and ran simultaneously with 97 Rock’s 20th annual Rock Out Hunger food drive, which took place at OGH.
From Monday, October 13 through Friday, November 7, staff from both hospitals and other Kaleida Health facilities collected non-perishable food items including: peanut butter, cereal, pastas, boxed stuffing, ready-made meals, canned vegetables, canned fruits, mac and cheese, other non-perishable food items and baby items including diapers, wipes and formula.
Departments from BRMC, OGH and the Olean Medical Group (OMG) took part in a friendly competition during this year’s food drive. Teams transformed shopping carts with eye-catching designs, all vying to see who could collect the most items while also competing for the best decorated cart—an honor determined by votes from coworkers after the drive concluded. This year, a record-setting 27 teams across BRMC, OGH and OMG took part in the annual event. The decorated carts were showcased in various locations throughout each hospital and ambulatory facility, each creatively designed with a unique theme.
“The success of this year’s Rock/Knock Out Hunger Food Drive is a testament to the dedication of our healthcare teams. Our employees not only deliver high-quality care to our community, but they also work tirelessly to address unmet needs both inside and outside the four walls of our hospitals,” said Joseph Fuglewicz, Marketing Director, Twin Tier and Rock Out Hunger Site Captain. “Their continued generosity and service to our communities helped ensure that more families received vital support this season.”
The 27 participating departments collected a remarkable 5,189 items, along with cash donations. All items collected in Olean were distributed to local food pantries through FeedMore WNY. The food items collected at BRMC went directly to Destinations Bradford, Salvation Army Food Pantry and the YWCA Homeless and Victim Resource Centers in Bradford.
“This annual program reached record levels of participation and support this year, demonstrating how deeply our employees care about meeting the needs of our local communities. With the growing challenges of food insecurity, our team was determined to ensure we continue making a meaningful impact on those in need.” added Fuglewicz.
