A Port Allegany man was convicted in McKean County Court Thursday of assaulting a child.
31-year-old Garret Homell was charged after an investigation by Pennsylvania State Police back in May into a 3-year-old child who went to the emergency room covered in bruises.
During the trial, the jury heard testimony that the toddler was solely left in the care and custody of Homell for the weekend of Jan 24, 2025, where the child received several injuries.
The jury convicted Homell of felony Aggravated Assault of a Victim Less than 6, felony Endangering Welfare of Children, Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
The District Attorney’s Office will seek an enhanced penalty as permitted under Pennsylvania law for the child’s age and the nature of his injuries.
The Presiding Judge also found Homell guilty of Harassment.
Sentencing will be announced by a subsequent court order.
