
The Pittsburgh Pirates are packing their bags for New York — and the buzz around this club is real.
The big news out of Bradenton this weekend: top prospect Konnor Griffin has been reassigned to Triple-A Indianapolis, ending weeks of speculation. The 19-year-old phenom slugged four spring home runs but batted just .171 with 13 strikeouts — and the Pirates are being patient with their prized shortstop.
That means Nick Gonzales slides in at short, and NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes leads a rotation that also includes Mitch Keller, Braxton Ashcraft, and Bubba Chandler .
The Bucs open the regular season Thursday at Citi Field against the New York Mets at one o’clock Eastern.
