The Pirates evened the series in a big way Tuesday night at PNC Park — seven to one over the San Diego Padres, and Paul Skenes was absolutely magnificent.
The twenty-three-year-old ace went six-and-a-third innings, allowing just two hits, striking out six, and keeping the Padres — one of the better lineups in the National League — completely off balance all evening. One run allowed. Eighty-seven pitches. That’s ace-level performance.
The offense finally woke up, too. Konnor Griffin drove in two, Oneil Cruz added a two-RBI double, and Pittsburgh broke it open with five runs in the eighth to put it away for good.
The series wraps up today — the Pirates and Padres play the rubber match this morning at PNC Park, first pitch at twelve-thirty-five. Then Pittsburgh heads to Chicago to take on the Cubs this weekend.
