The Pittsburgh Pirates closed out their weekend series Sunday with a 7-to-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park.
Pittsburgh’s pitching staff struggled with command throughout the afternoon, issuing multiple walks that put extra runners on base and forced the bullpen into high-leverage situations early. The Cubs took advantage, stringing together timely hits to build separation.
Defensively, the Pirates didn’t help themselves, committing key errors that extended innings and added to the pressure on the pitching staff.
At the plate, Pittsburgh showed flashes — pushing across three runs — but couldn’t generate enough sustained offense to climb back into the game.
Now, the Pirates turn the page. They’ll open a new series Monday against the Washington Nationals, looking for cleaner defense and sharper pitching. The radio pregame begins at 6:15pm EDT on WESB Sports, B107.5 FM.
