no joy on the North Shore today as the Pittsburgh Pirates dropped the series finale to the St. Louis Cardinals — ten to five — at PNC Park.
The Cardinals jumped on Pittsburgh early, plating three runs in the first inning and never looking back. Paul Skenes took the loss — surrendering five runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out nine but giving up two home runs in the process. The eight-run eighth inning off the bullpen sealed Pittsburgh’s fate.
Offensively, the Pirates managed just seven hits. Bryan Reynolds went two-for-five with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Brandon Lowe added a solo home run. But Pittsburgh left runners stranded all afternoon — going just one for six with men in scoring position.
Alec Burleson led St. Louis, going three-for-five with three RBIs. Jordan Walker added a solo shot as well. Cardinals’ reliever Gordon Graceffo picked up the win.
It was a rough series all around for Pittsburgh — outscored twenty-six to sixteen by St. Louis over three games.
Up next — the Pirates stay home at PNC Park to open a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds, with first pitch Friday night at 6:45pm EDT. The radio pregame on WESB Sports B107.5FM begins at 6:20pm EDT.
