The New York Yankees dropped Game Three of their four-game series to the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium — falling 2-1 in a pitching duel that wasn’t decided until the seventh inning.
Cam Schlittler was excellent for New York. The right-hander worked six innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits while striking out seven. But it wasn’t enough against a Blue Jays lineup that delivered when it counted. Andrés Giménez and Vladimir Guerrero Junior plated the only two runs of the game in the seventh, and closer Louis Varland locked it down in the ninth for the save.
Trey Yesavage was nearly unhittable for Toronto — tossing six scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out eight. The loss goes to Schlittler.
Offensively, Jazz Chisholm Junior went three for four to lead New York. Paul Goldschmidt drove in the Yankees’ only run. Aaron Judge was held hitless in four at-bats.
The series finale is tonight at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is set for seven-oh-five Eastern. Carlos Rodón takes the hill for New York in his third start back from the injured list. Toronto has not yet named a starter but is expected to use an opener.
