The Buffalo Sabres wasted no time taking care of their coach.
Just two days after their season ended in a heartbreaking Game Seven loss to Montreal, the Sabres announced a two-year contract extension for head coach Lindy Ruff — keeping him behind the bench through the Twenty-Twenty-Seven/Twenty-Eight season.
Ruff guided Buffalo to its first playoff appearance since Twenty-Eleven, an Atlantic Division title, and a second-round run that fell one game short of the Eastern Conference Final. He is the franchise’s all-time winningest coach with 657 wins and is currently a finalist for the NHL’s Jack Adams Award as coach of the year.
With 950 career NHL wins, Ruff could become just the fourth coach in league history to reach one thousand — possibly as soon as next season.
