Memorial Day weekend delivered two spectacular finishes on Sunday — and a moment of deep emotion at Charlotte.
At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Felix Rosenqvist won the 110th Indianapolis 500 in a last-lap drag race to the Yard of Bricks, edging David Malukas in the closest finish in the century-plus history of the event. The margin of victory was just point-zero-two-three-two seconds — a new record — with a stunning 70 lead changes across the 200-lap distance. Rosenqvist drove the Meyer Shank Racing number-60 SiriusXM Honda to victory, becoming just the third Swede ever to win “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
At Charlotte, NASCAR’s longest race was run in the shadow of Kyle Busch’s passing — and the drivers delivered a race Kyle would have been proud of. Daniel Suarez took the checkered flag in the Coca-Cola 600, holding off Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin when rain ended the race 27 laps early. Suarez, who was mentored by Busch after coming up from Mexico, burst into tears in Victory Lane and dedicated the win to his late friend.
Two races. Two unforgettable moments. One remarkable Sunday.
