“Malkinmania’ lives on in Pittsburgh.
Evgeni Malkin has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins on a one-year, five-point-five million dollar contract — bringing the legendary Russian back for his 21st season in the N-H-L. The deal also includes hefty performance bonuses — five-hundred-thousand dollars in games-played incentives, one million dollars if the Penguins make the playoffs, and another five-hundred-thousand for each playoff round won. The contract also features a full no-movement clause.
Malkin was in a great mood at the signing — joking about the contract needing a few more zeroes — and had some memorable things to say about returning to Pittsburgh .
The 39-year-old has spent all 20 of his previous N-H-L seasons in Pittsburgh, ranking second in franchise history in games played, and third in goals, assists, and points. He is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, a Hart Trophy winner, and a two-time Art Ross Trophy winner.
With Crosby, Letang, and now Malkin all returning — the Big Three remain together in Pittsburgh for at least one more run.
