The Pittsburgh Pirates sent a message at PNC Park Tuesday night.
The Bucs demolished the Chicago Cubs 12-1 in a wire-to-wire beatdown, putting up five runs in the very first inning and never looking back. Pittsburgh pounded out fifteen hits on the night — a complete offensive performance top to bottom.
Esmerlyn Valdez led the way with a home run and three R-B-I’s. Bryan Reynolds went two-for-four with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Oneil Cruz added three hits and an R-B-I. Spencer Horwitz and Nick Gonzales each contributed R-B-I hits as well.
On the mound, Braxton Ashcraft delivered again — six and a third innings, one earned run, five strikeouts — improving to three and two with a two-eighty-nine E-R-A on the year.
Tomorrow night, the Cubs send Jameson Taillon to the mound — 2-4, 5.20 E-R-A — against Pittsburgh’s Bubba Chandler, who is 1-6, with a 4.79 E-R-A. First pitch at 6:40pm EDT at PNC Park.
