Gerrit Cole looked like the ace of old Wednesday night in Kansas City.
In just his second start of the season, Cole was dominant — going six and two-thirds innings, scattering four hits, striking out ten, and not allowing a single run. The Yankees couldn’t ask for much more than that.
New York’s offense did its part as well. Ben Rice was the offensive star, going two-for-five with three R-B-I’s, including a triple. Ryan McMahon added a home run and two R-B-I’s. The Yankees plated runs in the fourth, seventh, and eighth to build a comfortable seven-nothing cushion.
Kansas City managed just four hits on the night, with Bobby Witt Junior held hitless in four at-bats.
The final — Yankees 7, Royals 0. New York sweeps the three-game series in Kansas City.
New York now heads out west for a weekend series with the A’s.
