The Cubs came to PNC Park Thursday and made a statement — handing the Pittsburgh Pirates a tough 7-2 loss in the finale.
Paul Skenes pitched well enough to win — striking out ten batters over five and a third innings, allowing just one earned run. But two costly errors in the field helped dig a hole Pittsburgh couldn’t climb out of. The Cubs plated three runs in the eighth inning to put it away for good.
For Chicago, Ian Happ continued to be a nightmare for the Bucs — going three-for-five with a home run and two R-B-I’s. Seiya Suzuki added two R-B-I’s as well. Colin Rea picked up the win for the Cubs, going five and a third innings and allowing just two earned runs.
The bright spot for Pittsburgh? Bryan Reynolds — going two-for-four with a double, a home run, and an R-B-I.
The Pirates now turn the page and welcome in the Minnesota Twins this weekend for a three-game set at PNC Park. First pitch Friday night at 6:45pm EDT witht he radio pregame at 6:15pm on WESB Sports, B107.5 FM.
