A tough weekend in Atlanta for the Pittsburgh Pirates — the Braves swept all three games and held Pittsburgh to three runs or fewer in every contest.
Friday night, Mitch Keller was roughed up — allowing six runs in four-and-two-thirds innings — and Atlanta pulled away 6-3. Mauricio Dubón went deep and drove in three to pace the Braves. Nick Gonzales and Henry Davis each had RBIs for Pittsburgh, but the Buccos managed just four hits all night.
Saturday was more of the same. Spencer Strider went five innings, scattered five hits, and got the win — Dominic Smith’s two-run homer in the first set the tone and Atlanta cruised to another6-3 decision. Braxton Ashcraft took the loss, giving up six runs in five innings.
Sunday was the most gut-wrenching of the three. Bubba Chandler was outstanding — striking out seven and allowing just one run through five-plus innings — but Atlanta erupted for three runs in the seventh on a bases-clearing double by Michael Harris the Second, and the Braves walked away 3-2. Pittsburgh went a combined two-for-eleven with runners in scoring position across the three games.
The Pirates come home to PNC Park Tuesday night to open a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers
