The New York Yankees have swept the Cleveland Guardians — and Jazz Chisholm Junior made sure the series finale was a statement win.
New York cruised to an eight-to-four victory Wednesday afternoon at Progressive Field — sweeping all three games in Cleveland and heading to Toronto with serious momentum. Chisholm was the story of the afternoon — going one-for-five but making that hit count in a big way with a 2-RBI triple.
Chisholm finished with three RBIs and scored twice — the engine that drove New York’s offense all afternoon. José Caballero also had a big day — going two-for-five with two RBIs. Paul Goldschmidt went two-for-six and drove in one. Trent Grisham was on base all day — scoring three times and ripping a triple of his own.
On the mound Carlos Rodon earned the win — going six innings, striking out seven, and allowing three runs. Brent Headrick and Ryan Yarbrough each threw scoreless stints in relief to close it out.
Cleveland committed two errors that helped New York build the lead early. The Yankees went three-for-thirteen with runners in scoring position but still pounded out eleven hits.
New York heads to Toronto for a three-game series beginning Friday night at 7:37pm EDT.
