The Yankees took two of three from the Blue Jays in Toronto, and did it in style on Sunday.
Friday was rough — Ryan Weathers got roughed up early, surrendering six runs in four-plus innings as Toronto jumped out 8-5. Cody Bellinger homered, but the Bombers dug too deep a hole to climb out.
Saturday, Cam Schlittler was outstanding — seven innings, one run, seven strikeouts — and Paul Goldschmidt delivered a two-run shot as New York won 3-1. David Bednar closed it out with a perfect ninth.
Then Sunday the Yankees put it away in style — erupting for five runs in the ninth to pull away 8-3. José Caballero drove in three, Ben Rice added a homer, and Anthony Volpe chipped in a two-run single off the bench. Twelve hits on the afternoon for the Bombers.
A good two-of-three in a division rival’s park — the Yankees will take it.
Up next, New York comes home. They open a three-game set against the Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium Tuesday night — first pitch at7:05pm EDT.
