The Yankees offense exploded Tuesday night at home, and Davis Martin — the same pitcher who came in leading baseball in wins — never had a chance.
New York pounded out sixteen hits and crushed four home runs in a twelve-to-two rout of the White Sox. Gerrit Cole was sharp on the mound — six innings, two runs, six strikeouts — picking up the win, while Martin was knocked out after just three-and-a-third innings, charged with nine earned runs.
Cody Bellinger led the offense with three hits and two RBI. Anthony Volpe had three hits of his own. And the Yankees got home runs up and down the lineup — Spencer Jones, Paul Goldschmidt, José Caballero, and Ben Rice all went deep.
A statement win for the Bombers, who improve to the best record in the American League East.
New York goes for the sweep tonight at the Stadium, first pitch at 7:05 EDT.
