The Yankees limp home from Fenway after getting swept by the Red Sox in painful fashion — four straight losses to their oldest rival.
Boston took the opener 6-3 Thursday, then rolled 6-1 Friday behind a near-perfect outing from rookie lefty Payton Tolle. Saturday’s 4-1 loss featured a leadoff homer from Masataka Yoshida off Gerrit Cole, who allowed four runs in five-and-a-third innings.
Sunday was the gut-punch. Sonny Gray no-hit New York into the eighth. Aroldis Chapman blew a two-run lead in the ninth, the Yankees grabbed it back in extras — and Boston walked it off anyway, Jarren Duran singling home the winner in a three-run tenth for a 5-4 final. New York was outscored 21-9 across the four games.
The Yankees sit at 48-34, still in the AL East mix, but they need a reset — fast. They get it at home, hosting Detroit starting tonight for a three-game set at Yankee Stadium running through Wednesday, July 1st.
