The Pirates closed out their series in Philadelphia the right way Thursday afternoon.
Pittsburgh beat the Phillies 6-1 at Citizens Bank Park, pounding out fourteen hits and holding Philadelphia to just four. Jared Jones was sharp in four innings of work before Carmen Mlodzinski, Gregory Soto, and Mason Montgomery locked it down the rest of the way.
Nick Gonzales was the offensive standout — three for five with a home run and two RBI. Esmerlyn Valdez also had a big afternoon — two hits, three RBI, and a triple. Jake Mangum added three hits and scored twice. Pittsburgh hit a team average of three-sixty-eight on the day with five extra-base hits.
The Pirates now head to Washington for a three-game series with the Nationals. Tonight, Mitch Keller goes against Foster Griffin — first pitch at 6:45pm EDT with the radio pregame kicking off at 6:20pm on WESB Sports, B107.5FM.
