The Yankees snapped their skid in a big way Monday night in Tampa Bay.
Cam Schlittler was dominant — eight innings, just one earned run, eight strikeouts on one-hundred-and-one pitches — as New York beat the Rays 5-1. It was exactly the kind of start the Yankees needed heading into a four-game series with Tampa. David Bednar closed it out with a perfect ninth.
José Caballero provided all the firepower — going two for three with two home runs and four RBI, including a three-run blast in the fifth that broke the game open. Ben Rice added a solo shot in the eighth to put the finishing touches on it. Tampa managed just four hits all night.
New York and Tampa Bay are back at it tonight — it’s Will Warren (7-3, 3.73 ERA) for the Yankees against a TBD starter for Tampa Bay. First pitch at 6:40pm EDT.
