The Yankees dropped two of three in Tampa Bay, and Wednesday night was a tough one for Gerrit Cole.
Cole went six-and-a-third innings, allowing seven hits and three runs — all the damage Tampa Bay needed for a 3-0 victory. Shane McClanahan was the difference on the other side, going six-plus shutout innings while the Rays scratched runs across in the third, fifth, and seventh. Jonathan Aranda drove in all three Tampa runs with a pair of clutch hits, and Yandy Díaz went four for four to pace the Rays’ offense.
New York managed just six hits and went zero for five with runners in scoring position. A series the Yankees took the opener of slips away at the end.
The Yankees open a three-game series in Washington tomorrow night, first pitch at 6:45pm EDT.
