Empire State pride was on full display in Salamanca this weekend. The 10th annual NY/PA Corporate Cup Soccer Showcase brought together the top high school talent from both sides of the border, and New York took three of the four games after dropping the opener.
Pennsylvania struck first, its boys’ Silver squad rallying from a scoreless half with three second-half goals — including two from the penalty spot — to win 3-0. But New York answered right back, its girls’ Silver team cruising to a 4-0 win of its own.
Then came the headliner. In the boys’ Gold match, New York needed just 56 seconds to take the lead and never looked back, rolling to a 5-0 win behind goals from Hinsdale’s Robert Childs, Jamestown’s Beckett Lumia, and Belfast’s Wyatt Weaver. The girls’ Gold match capped the day with another New York win, 5-2.
