The Pirates showed serious fight Tuesday night, even in defeat. Arizona built a six-run lead at PNC Park before Pittsburgh clawed all the way back, capped by back-to-back home runs from Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds in the ninth inning to tie the game at six. It forced extras, but James McCann’s fourth hit of the night — a go-ahead single in the 12th — gave the Diamondbacks an 8-to-7 win. Lowe’s blast was his team-leading 22nd homer of the year, and it was Arizona closer Paul Sewald’s third blown save of the season.
The Pirates and Diamondbacks — both fighting for that final N-L Wild Card spot — continue their series Wednesday at PNC Park at 12″35pm EDT.
