One of the region’s best traditions is back this weekend. The Big 30 All-Star Charities Classic kicks off Saturday, August 1st, at 7 PM at Parkway Field on the campus of Bradford Area High School — New York versus Pennsylvania, pitting the top graduating seniors from McKean, Cameron, Elk, Potter, and Warren Counties in Pennsylvania against Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties in New York.
There’s history on the line, too. New York’s blowout win last year — 56-to-nothing — tied the all-time series at 25 wins apiece, dating all the way back to 1974. Now New York’s chasing a three-peat and the tiebreaker for good, while Pennsylvania’s offense, led under center by a new quarterback, looks to spoil the party on home turf.
Beyond the scoreboard, this game’s raised more than two-point-two million dollars for local charities over the decades — proof that the real winners here are the kids and families this event supports.
