The Pirates dropped their third straight to the National League’s best team Wednesday night, falling 4-to-2 to the Brewers at American Family Field. Milwaukee jumped on Paul Skenes for three runs in the fourth — Christian Yelich’s RBI double and Andrew Vaughn’s two-run single did the damage — and William Contreras added a solo shot off reliever Lake Bachar in the sixth to make it 4-nothing. Skenes struggled with his command, walking four over five innings and falling to 9-and-10 on the season.
Pittsburgh wasn’t going down quietly, though, as an Endy Rodriguez home run trimmed it to 4-2, but Kyle Harrison — making his return from the injured list — struck out his final eight batters faced before cramping up, and the Brewers’ bullpen slammed the door.
The Pirates and Brewers wrap up the series tonight at seven-thirty Eastern in Milwaukee, with Braxton Ashcraft on the mound for Pittsburgh opposite Dustin May, making his first start since joining the Brewers.
