The Pirates couldn’t find their footing again Thursday, falling 5-2 to the Brewers at American Family Field. Dustin May won his Milwaukee debut, allowing just two runs and three hits over six innings. Jackson Churio and Gary Sanchez both went deep for the Brewers, while Brandon Lowe’s leadoff homer in the fourth, his 24th of the year, got Pittsburgh on the board.
Braxton Ashcraft took the loss. Milwaukee dropped the series opener but swept the final three games. But Pirates manager Don Kelly says the club is not panicking.
“We’re scuffling right now, ” said the Skipper.” We’ve gone through some stretches throughout the season that we’ve struggled, you know, and we found ways to get out of it and I know that our guys are working hard, and I know that we’re going to find a way to get out of this one too.”
The Pirates now turn to a series in New York against the Mets.
The first pitch Friday is going to be at 6:40 p.m. You’ll find the radio pregame on WESB Sports, B107.5 FM at 6:10. Left-hander Zach Thornton will be on the mound for the Mets, while Carmen Mlodzinski gets the start for the Bucs.
