The Pirates pulled off a stunner Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park, rallying for a 4-to-3 walk-off win over the Tigers in the rubber match. Rafael Flores Junior and Brandon Lowe went back-to-back with solo home runs in the bottom of the ninth off Detroit closer Kenley Jansen, with Lowe’s blast — his 26th of the season — sealing the win. It’s the Pirates’ fourth walk-off victory of the year and their second straight series win after dropping their previous seven.
Paul Skenes didn’t have his best stuff, allowing three runs over five innings, but the bullpen and the late-inning power picked him up in a big way.
The Pirates improve to 63-and-66 and now turn their attention to a series against the Cardinals starting this weekend.
