Tough night for Pittsburgh. The Penguins fell 7 to 4 to the Detroit Red Wings in preseason action, and prospects stole the show for Detroit. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard scored twice and played a physical, hard-hitting game, while Mason Appleton, Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Ondrej Becher, Jesse Kiiskinen and Wilmer Skoog also found the net for the Red Wings. For Pittsburgh, Nick Robertson, Rickard Rakell, Kaedan Korczak and Rutger McGroarty each scored.
The rough part of the night was in Pittsburgh’s crease. Goaltender Arturs Silovs had a night to forget, allowing all 7 goals on just 21 shots faced, including two goals in a 31-second span in the second period. Silovs was candid about it afterward, saying himself, quote, “I offered an apology. There were a lot of shots that I allowed big rebounds.”
