The Yankees are moving on. New York closed out the Red Sox 9-2 in Game 2 to sweep the American League Wild Card Series in two games.
Cody Bellinger led the way, going 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and 4 RBIs, and Luis García Jr. added a solo shot of his own, going 3-for-5. On the mound, Max Fried was dominant, working six innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts.
Boston starter Sonny Gray couldn’t match him, lasting only four-and-two-thirds innings. With the sweep, the Yankees now turn to the top-seeded Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS, a best-of-five series that opens Saturday at 6:30 Eastern in Tampa Bay.
