Legislation establishing a statewide registry of people convicted of serious animal abuse has passed in the Pennsylvania Senate and is headed to the House of Representatives.
Senate Bill 1311, known as Aimeeās Law, would require the Pennsylvania State Police to maintain a publicly accessible animal abuser registry containing photographs and identifying information to help prevent people convicted of serious animal cruelty offenses from obtaining additional animals.
The legislation is named for Aimee, a 6-month-old husky found abandoned in a crate beneath a bridge in Erie during subzero temperatures that later died of malnutrition and frostbite.
