The Pittsburgh Penguins ended a skid Saturday night, beating Dallas two to one in a shootout at PPG Paints Arena. The win came after three straight losses, including a shootout loss at Columbus on Friday. Connor Dewar scored early in the third period, but Tyler Seguin tied it with thirty seconds left in regulation. In the shootout, Rickard Rakell scored the deciding goal, and Sidney Crosby scored too. Goalie Arturs Silovs made twenty-four saves, and the Penguins are three-two-and-one. They’re at Chicago Tuesday.
Buffalo wasn’t so lucky. The Sabres lost to Utah four to one at KeyBank Center. Tage Thompson’s power-play goal put Buffalo up early, but Utah answered with four straight, including power-play goals from Nick Schmaltz and John Marino. Colten Ellis made twenty-six saves, but Utah has now won all five meetings with Buffalo, and the Sabres have lost two in a row and are two-and-three. Coach Lindy Ruff said, quote, “We haven’t been connected.” Buffalo hosts Florida Monday at one Eastern.
