Dresser-Rand’s Olean plant is laying-off 21 employees. John Baglione, president of the United Steelworkers Union Local 4601, says the company is considering eight to 10 more layoffs too. Baglione says Dresser-Rand officials told him the layoffs are in response to a reduced demand in orders, because of oil prices. On Tuesday, the US Department of Energy announced that Dresser-Rand is getting a $4 million grant to design and test pilot-scale supersonic carbon dioxide compressors.
