Olean Accountant Sentenced for Embezzlement

An Olean accountant has been sentenced to prison in connection with embezzlement and bank fraud charges.

54 year old Joseph Stevens pled guilty in March to bank fraud and tax evasion after making over $300,000 in unauthorized withdrawals and forging over $89,000 in checks from the bank account of an unnamed business. He also admitted to not filing tax returns in 2014 and 2015 and failing to pay over $80,000 in taxes.

Stevens was sentenced yesterday to 33 months in prison and ordered to pay over $500,000 in restitution.
