School Board Gets Update on Free School Meals Program

At last night’s meeting of the Bradford area school board, members got an update about the program that provides free breakfast and lunch to students.

Melissa Kingen of The Nutrition Group and Dana Mollander, director of the school district’s food service department, told school board members that participation had in the USDA program significantly increased since last year.

Kingen said through January 31 they have served 57,000 more breakfasts and 24,000 more lunches than last year.

She added that in addition to more children receiving free, nutritious meals, they are not stigmatized for not having lunch money.

Also last night,  the board approved an updated academic calendar for the 2018 -2019 school year that will give students half a day off each month.

As for this year’s calendar , last week’s snow day will be made up on Monday.
