If you noticed it got awfully dark between 2:35pm and 3:00 o’clock this afternoon. It’s not because a light bulb burned out. This afternoon Bradford experienced a solar eclipse. Today across the country millions of people viewed the rare solar event using special glasses, specially designed boxes, or other inexpensive methods. The last time the United States experienced a total solar eclipse was 99 years ago. The track of the eclipse will be 70 miles wide across a 2,500 mile long path of totality in 14 states. You should never look at a solar eclipse without the properly approved eye wear, doing so could damage your retina’s permanently. About 80 percent of the sun was blocked out by the moon in the Bradford area. You may have also noticed some odd behavior from wild animals during today’s solar eclipse.
