The Pirates beat the Rockies 6-3 this afternoon in a game that was a make-up for Sunday’s rain-out.
But the big news is that Pirates’ pitcher Ryan Vogelsong was taken away from PNC Park in an ambulance after being hit in the head by 92 mph fastball from Jordan Lyles in the bottom of the second inning.
The Pirates’ Twitter account says they will provide updates when they get them.
In the bottom of the third inning, home plate umpire Jeff Nelson had dirt inadvertently kicked into his left eye on a Francisco Cervelli slide. After trainers tried to clean out his eye, Nelson was escorted to the clubhouse. Ben May moved from first base to behind the plate.
