The Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau (ANFVB), the official tourism promotion agency for McKean County, announced today a collectible pin program featuring the county’s historic sites. The program is designed as a fun and family-friendly marketing campaign to promote the many museums and historic sites located within McKean County. Beginning on Oct. 2, 2019, a unique collectible pin will be available for purchase or trade at each location.
One distinctive pin was designed for each of the 10 participating locations. Visitors will also be able to purchase an ANFVB-branded pin lanyard to wear and display their collection. Program sites include: Kinzua Bridge State Park Gift Shop in Mt. Jewett, Marilyn Horne Museum & Exhibit Center, Zippo/Case Museum, Penn Brad Oil Museum, Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau Welcome Center in Bradford, McKean County Historical Society in Smethport, Eldred WW II Museum in Eldred, McCleery Discovery Center in Kane, Lynn Hall and Serenity Glass Park in Port Allegany.
“We are excited to launch this unique program.” Said Linda Devlin, Executive Director of the ANF Visitors Bureau, “McKean will be the only county in the state of Pennsylvania offering a collectible pin program that brings together ten different historic sites and museums to encourage visitors to explore the entire county.”
A colorful map showing all of the available pins, along with the site names and locations, will be available at the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau’s Welcome Center in downtown Bradford, as well as at each of the participating sites. The McKean County Historic Collectible Pin Trail Map will also be available as a downloadable PDF on www.visitANF.com.
“Tourism is the key to unlocking the economic potential of our communities.” Devlin added. “The pin program will encourage visitors and residents to travel throughout the county, where they will dine, shop, spend dollars at local businesses, and hopefully make plans for a return visit.”
The ANFVB has covered the cost of the first set of 100 pins and lanyards for each location. As many of the locations participating are non-profit organizations the ANFVB has provided the logistical and financial support to guarantee that all of the county’s sites were able to participate. As the pins are sold, each location will have their own funds to purchase additional pins. Pins will be retailed for $5.95 each.
