It’s almost Groundhog Day — again.
And PETA wants this to be the last one with a real, live groundhog.
The animal rights group says the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club should retire Punxsutawney Phil and, instead, use animatronics with artificial intelligence that can predict weather.
In a news release, PETA says their proposal would breathe life into a tired tradition and do right by a long-suffering animal.
The “long-suffering animal” spends most of his time in a warm terrarium built into the Punxsutawney library with a glass wall that faces the outside.
The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club says they will issue a statement soon.
