Two McKean County residents have been indicted for allegedly breaking laws regarding the growth and sale of Ginseng.
Dale A. Smith, the owner and operator of Allegheny Mountain Ginseng in Eldred, was indicted on five counts of allegedly violating federal law by purchasing American ginseng harvested in another state without the proper certifications and submitting false records for the plants.
In a two count indictment, Shane Michael Trout is accused of obtaining ginseng from Ohio without the required certification and later submitting a Ginseng Dealer Quarterly Report that falsely reported the ginseng as being harvested in Pennsylvania.
