An area Boy Scout camp will be turned over as part of a settlement of abuse claims.
The Allegheny Highlands Council announced that the Elk Lick Scout Reserve in Smethport will be turned over with the proceeds going directly to the Victims’ Trust. The 1,500 acre parcel is heavily wooded and includes lodges and other facilities used during Scout events.
The value of the property is estimated at just under a million dollars.
AHC Executive Nathanial Thornton said that liquidating the camp was the soundest option fiscally, allowing the Council to retain as much of their endowment as possible.
Events previously held at Elk Lick will now take place at Camp Merz in Mayville, New York.
