A “smoke-in” protest against the closure of unlicensed marijuana dispensaries has been announced for Tuesday afternoon in Olean.
Online organizers hope to gather in Lincoln Park at 1 PM to protest the actions of the Olean Police in shutting down the dispensaries.
Two Olean dispensaries were shut down last week as part of a statewide crackdown.
Just as long as no one is burning tires on Union Street or the four-lane, this protest will go unnoticed. Okay, if they light a giant bud – filled pinata that might draw a crowd. Hey, weed smells better than burning tires and certainly isn’t as toxic.
I didn’t think police had the sole authority to close a dispensary.
Other people don’t know the good side of marijuana dispensaries. Everyone should consider that there are also helpful benefits we can get with them.
Instead of resorting to the closure of dispensaries, a more beneficial approach could be to consider reducing taxes imposed on cannabis sales and enabling dispensaries to contribute to the local economy through tax payments. Taking inspiration from successful models like Colorado, where cannabis taxation has proven to be lucrative, implementing lower taxes can encourage legal sales, generate substantial revenue, and boost economic growth. By allowing dispensaries to contribute their fair share of taxes, communities can benefit from increased funding for essential services, education, public health initiatives, and infrastructure development. This approach fosters a positive and mutually beneficial relationship between dispensaries and the community, supporting a thriving and sustainable cannabis industry while maximizing the economic potential for all.
There’s another way to show or express strong disagreement with the closure of unlicensed marijuana dispensaries. I hope everything will be okay.
I hope everything will be okay with the unlicensed marijuana dispensaries. All will be settled w/o anyone hurting.
