Karns City senior quarterback Mason Martin, who has been in a hospital battling for his life since he collapsed on the field during his team’s season-opener, may soon be transferred to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh to begin rehabilitation.
Mason’s father, Denny Martin, shared the update on his son’s condition yesterday afternoon via Facebook, saying that he is still unconscious, but is now starting to physically respond to verbal commands, such as being told to squeeze his hand.
Martin also said the transfer to UPMC Mercy was scheduled for this week but was pushed back due to bed availability and that Mason’s doctor remains confident in his ability to recover.
