The Seneca Nation is warning the public of another dangerous discharge from the City of Olean Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The City of Olean Wastewater Treatment Plant reported two overflows of sewage Wednesday, due to heavy rain. Approximately 186,000 gallons of untreated sewage was discharged into the Allegany River, a source of drinking water for millions of people.
Discharges in excess of the City’s discharge permit have been a chronic occurrence. In 2001, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an Order of Consent for the city to upgrade its wastewater treatment facilities, but the city has been unable to comply with the order to date.
According to Seneca Nation President Rickey Armstrong, Sr, dangerous wastewater discharge has been a problem for years, and said “Don’t push this situation down the road for another two decades. Fix it now.”
Quit beating around the bush Olean! Fix it ! It’s not acceptable for you to continue polluting our beautiful river! If it was your water being affected you would be raising hell. NYSDEC resind the extension and fine them heavily until it gets fixed. We aren’t going to take this any longer.FIX IT!
