District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer provides the community update on the medication drop boxes. Yesterday, the contents of the drug boxes were collected and destroyed. The boxes are maintained at several law enforcement agencies across the county. They are for the use of anyone who wants to discard unused medication and are seen as one tool in preventing medication from being accessed by someone other than the person to whom it was prescribed. The County Detectives with the District Attorney’s Office collect the contents throughout the year and, each quarter, the contents are weighed and destroyed by Agents with the Attorney General’s Office. At yesterday’s collection, a total of 162 lbs. of medication was collected. The totals from each box for the 2nd quarter of 2025 (from April 1st 2025 to July 22nd 2025) were as follows: Bradford City: 51.5 lbs. Bradford Twp.: 5.5 lbs. Sheriff’s Dept.: 59.5 lbs. Kane Borough: 35.5 lbs. PSP Lewis Run: 10 lb. If you have unused medication, please deposit it into one of the boxes at the above locations. To report suspected illegal drug activity to the McKean County Drug Task Force, please contact Chief County Detective Ryan Yingling at (814)887-3312 or McKeanDA.org
